Michael Hewerdine

Age: 32

Sex: male

Date: 21 Nov 1996

Place: Ruskington, Lincolnshire

Michael Hewerdine went missing from his home in Ruskington, Lincolnshire, and is believed murdered.

He was last seen on 21 November 1996 when he had left his home to meet some people in Sleaford, not far away, saying that he would be back home by 1am.

A murder investigation was later opened in 1999.

It was said that he rarely left his immediate local area and that when he had vanished he had left his lights and central heating on and his pet dog unattended and without food. He had also taken no personal belongings with him.

It was believed that he had connections to local criminals.

It was heard that prior to his disappearance he had told friends that he had been extremely concerned for his safety.

In 2017 the police excavated a field in East Heckington near the A17 as part of their investigation following new information. The field was between Swineshead Bridge and Sleaford. However, the search, that had involved diggers and drones, was later called off.

He was 5ft 10in tall with straight brown hair, bushy eyebrows and a fresh complexion.

It was thought that he had been wearing dark jeans at the time he vanished, either blue or black and a pair of Timberland boots, a wide brown leather belt with a gold buckle and a three-quarter length quilted leather coat. It was also said that he would have had his house key on a black shoelace around his neck.

Several people were arrested and interviewed during the murder investigation, but no one was charged with his murder.

He was known locally as Hewey.
