David Richard Seymour was stabbed to death in the patio bar if Oscars, the wine bar, at The Oracle in Reading in the early hours of 26 October 1997.

He was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

It was initially reported that a man that had been identified by the police as a prime suspect had soon after gone missing from his place of work. It was reported that the police had staked out his home but that he had not returned.

The main suspect was described as being a black man, in his 30s, about 6ft 2in tall and with European facial features.

Another 24-year-old man was also arrested on 29 October 1997 in connection with the murder but released on police bail. However, the police noted that he was not wanted for the actual killing itself.

David Seymour had been out drinking with some friends at the time.

He had had a bottle snashed over his head in the attack and was then stabbed in the chest.

One of his friends was also stabbed in the stomach but released from hospital soon after. However, the police said that they were treating the attack on David Seymour's friend itself as attempted murder.

David Seymour had been a keen footballer and had lived in Checkendon with his fiancee.
