Stephen Primrose was attacked at his home and died six months later in the Countess of Chester Hospital.
He had been attacked with a hammer or iron bar at his home on 4 January 1996 and later died in July 1996.
His post-mortem stated that he had received multiple blows to the head with a blunt instrument.
He was attacked at his home in Chester Road, Whitby. He was found unconscious and never regained consciousness.
His baby son had been in the room at the time that Stephen Primrose was attacked but was unharmed and later found sitting inches away from him by his mother when she returned home from work.
Stephen Primrose had been a debt collector.
The police said that they were hoping that by entering his details into the police computer HOLMES, which stood for the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System, that they would be able to further piece together the clues.
