Andrew Stevens died after being attacked on a night out with friends.
He was beaten in New Street on 31 October 1982 and then taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary but was discharged after treatment for cuts to his face.
He went back to hospital the next day after he lost consciousness and died a week later on 8 Novemeber 1982.
