Martin Simpson was found with head injuries in Albion Street, Leicester after a night out on 23 November 2003 at about 2.30am.
He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary but was found to be dead on arrival. He was found by a taxi driver lying in the middle of the street.
He had earlier on been to the Yates wine bar on Belvoir Street, the Last Plantaganet in Granby Street and the High Cross pub on the High Street during the afternoon of 22 November 2003 as well as other places.
His post-mortem stated that he had a fractured skull and that he had bruising to both eyes.
The investigation into his murder was called Operation Dice.
The police later released CCTV footage of a man walking along New Walk, who they also saw in other CCTV footage close to where Martin Simpson was found, and said that they thought that he might have had information that could help their investigation. Police said that that thought that the man in the CCTV footage might have been a student as he was walking off towards the university area.
