Rebwar Osman Samin

Rebwar Osman Samin was stabbed to death in Clyde Street, Leicester around 5pm on Wednesday 11 January 2006.

He was last seen in Sara's Restaurant, in Humberstone Road and was thought to have left with a friend and walked to Clyde Street where they got into a fight with two other men. Both Rebwar Samin and his friend were stabbed in the attack. He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he died shortly after.

Two main suspects were thought to have fled the United Kingdom soon after via Dover. It was thought that they were somewhere in mainland Europe or even further away. Their photos and DNA profiles were circulated to police forces and immigration authorities across Europe. They were both Iraqi nationals and known to associate with the Kurdish community. They were described as in their mid 20s and of Middle Eastern appearance. One of the men was described as being about 5ft 8in tall, chubby, clean-shaven, with short black curly hair and had been wearing a white t-shirt and black trousers. The other man was described as slim, shorter than the first man, clean-shaven, with short brown hair and wearing a dark jacket and light trainers.

The police said that there were a number of people in the area at the time and that they were also looking for a white man with long blonde hair who was thought to have vital information as well as two men that had been with a white Mercedes van that had been parked in Clyde Street at the time.

At his inquest, his post-mortem was heard to state that he had stab wounds as well as injuries from being kicked and stamped on.

The police said that they had followed up more than 700 lines of enquiry and taken more than 140 statements.

Rebwar Samin was from Iraq and had been preparing to return to get married.
