He was seen struggling with a man in Pitfodels Station Road, Aberdeen and later found dead by his taxi.
In September 2022 the police said that they were trying to trace a man that was seen in Wilson's Sports Bar in September 2015 wearing a fake Iron Maiden t-shirt.
In september 2023 the police said that they had found what they thought was a DNA profile of his killer and in September 2024 they said they had 200 possible genetic matches and would begin to contact people from the list in an effort to identify any potential family links to a profile from the scene.
