Fabian Ricketts

Age: 18

Sex: male

Date: 18 Apr 2006

Place: Battersea Bar, 58-70 York Road, Mitcham

Fabian Ricketts was shot in the heart outside the Battersea Bar, in York Road, on 18 April 2006.

Three men were tried for his murder at the Old Bailey but were acquitted after the judge said that there wasn't enough evidence against them. One of the men tried was later convicted for the murder of Sadiq Adebiyi in Stockwell. He was also convicted of being in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson revolver about three months after Fabian Ricketts was shot. The Smith and Wesson revolver was said to have been 120 years old and from the Wild West.

Fabian Ricketts had gone to the Battersea Bar with some friends for a Bank Holiday barbecue. While they were there one of his friends was said to have gestured to another man that he thought he knew in what was mistaken for a gun sign. The person that he had gestured to then came over and pistol whipped the friend. When Fabian Ricketts intervened the man shot him at point blank range through the heart and left lung. It was said that another gang member present had also brandished a double-barrelled shotgun.

It was thought that the man with the gun had been in the Stick'em Up Kids gang from Battersea. One of the gunman's friends was heard to say 'Good - you got bun'.

After he was shot he was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting but died soon after.

Fabian Ricketts had lived on Caithness Road in Mitcham and worked at Woolworths.

It was noted that his murder was witnessed by James Andre Smartt-Ford who was later shot at the Streatham Ice Arena in February 2007.
