Edvin Johnson was stabbed to death in a block of flats in Camberwell.
He was stabbed in the groin in the stairwell of Barnet House on the Crawford Estate at about 9pm.
He was taken to Kings College Hospital where he was found to be dead.
The police said that there had been about twelve youths on the estate at the time and that five of them had been responsible for attacking Edvin Johnson. They had also attacked another man. The police said that neither men were the intended targets of the attack.
Three knives were found nearby, one of which had Edvin Johnson's blood on it. The knives were part of a distinctive stainless steel set and included a bread knife.
In 2012 two men were arrested on suspicion of his murder but no charges were made.
Edvin Johnson was a student and was about to start a course in business studies at Southampton University.
