Jake Johnson

Age: 19

Sex: male

Date: 26 Dec 2009

Place: Rodney Road, Cheltenham

Jake Johnson fell from the third floor of a house in Rodney Road, Cheltenham on Christmas Day 2009.

An open verdict was returned.

Six people were initially arrested in connection with his murder.

Moments earlier he had stabbed someone in the face and had had a fight.

He had been at a party at his cousin's flat which was between Rodney Road and the Regent Arcade on the upper floor of the building.

He was found in an alleyway having fallen 30 feet down and taken to Cheltenham General Hospital at about 11pm but died a few hours later on 26 December 2009 at 2.25am.

At his inquest the court heard that witness statements did not fit together and a true picture of what had happened on the night could not be determined. However, the Coroner said that he didn't think that the witnesses were lying saying that they had all been very drunk and that some of them had taken drugs.

Witnesses said that Jake Johnson had earlier taken a carving knife and cut another man's face after which there was a fight between the man and Jake Johnson. The court heard that someone tried to break it up and that shortly after Jake Johnson was found at the bottom of the window. They also heard that no one saw him fall and that nobody actually knew which window he had fallen from.

When the police arrived they found blood on the walls and pooled on the floor.

Jake Johnson had been studying bricklaying at Gloucestershire College at the time.
