Age: 76

Sex: female

Date: 7 Mar 1998

Place: Mill Road, Impington

Elsie Freeman was discovered dead on her bed at Mill Road, Impington, with her hands and feet bound on 7 March 1998.

She was found by a member of her  family at about 12.12pm.

She had also been beaten and had died from head injuries. The police said that they thought that she might have been lying there for about three days before she was found. She was last seen alive on the Wednesday, 4 March 1998. The police said, 'The post-mortem examination revealed the woman died of severe head injuries consistent with having been struck by repeated blows with a weapon'.

The police said that they thought that she had been murdered in a burglary gone wrong. Her house, which was surrounded by trees and shrubs, had been broken into through a side window.

At the time the police made an appeal for anyone that had seen a certain wristwatch which was said to have been one of her possessions that had gone missing.

Her case was reopened in 2005 after a new lead involving DNA evidence was found.

She had been a retired nurse.

The police said that their investigation was difficult because Elsie Freeman had been a recluse and few people had known her well.
