Jackie Gallagher

Age: 26

Sex: female

Date: 24 Jun 1996

Place: Dumbarton Road, Bowling, Dunbartonshire

Jackie Gallagher went missing on 24 June 1996 from Glasgow city centre. Her body was later found in a layby off the A814 near Bowling, Dunbartonshire

When she was found her body had been battered.

A man was tried for her murder in 2004 but the case against him was found not proven.

Jackie Gallagher was a prostitute and a heroin addict.

When she was found, her body was wrapped up in some distinctive home-made curtains that the police said they were trying to find the maker or owner.

There were also sightings of a black BMW car in the layby where her body was found on the night of her murder.

The man that was tried for her murder admitted that he had been having oral sex with Jackie Gallagher on the night before she was murdered, saying that he had been to see her about twice a week for the previous four months.

He said that the last time he saw her was in a flat in Newlands Road in Glasgow that he had rented for another prostitute on the night before she was murdered and that he afterwards dropped her off in the red-light district in the early morning of 23 June 1996.

At his trial he gave an alibi for his defence.

Traces of his semen were found on Jackie Gallagher's clothing, but his defence said that that was not surprising.

He said that he had used hundreds of prostitutes in Glasgow and had never been violent towards them. He said that he had started using prostitutes after his wife left him.

He admitted that he had been involved with spanking after a prostitute slapped his bottom and said that he used a slipper or flimsy strip of leather, which he called a bum paddle but said that he had not been involved in bondage.

The man tried was a kitchen fitter and at the time of his trial was serving three years imprisonment for a fatal road accident.
