Robin Wood was shot in the neck with a sawn-off shotgun on his doorstep.
He was a car dealer and had a conviction for armed robbery.
A man called at his house at 10.40pm on 2 May 1998 and his partner answered it. She said that a man calling himself Terry then asked to speak to Robin Wood and that as Robin Wood walked towards the door the man shot him in the neck.
He died at the scene.
The man was described as being aged between 25 and 35 years old, about 5ft 7in tall and having a slim build. He was said to have been wearing an unzipped dark-coloured anorak.
After the shooting the man ran off into Kempton Avenue.
The police later said that they thought that his murder might have been a contract shooting.
