Date: 3 Jul 1998
Julie Jones was killed and left wrapped up in a carpet at a market under some bushes at Old Smithfield Market in Manchester city centre where she was found on 3 July 1998.
She was last seen by her housemate on 27 June 1998 at their house in Ancoats, Manchester.
She was a prostitute and had been using drugs.
She was found wrapped up naked in the carpet.
It was said that she had been viciously attacked and relatives were unable to identify her body. It was thought that she might have been kicked and repeatedly jumped on leaving her with a split rib cage and said that she had died from crush injuries.
Her clothes and jewellery were never found.
Her family said that they didn't know that she had been working as a prostitute.
It was reported that her mother said that she knew who murdered Julie Jones but that neither she, nor the police, had got the proof. She said, 'I wish somebody who knows these people, because I know them, would just give the police a ring and give them a lead. If you have any sort of conscience, please ring the police so me and her two lads can try and get on with our lives. I want to lay her to rest, that's all I pray for.'.
