Colin Hughes was stabbed in the back yard at his home in the early hours of 21 September 2010.

He had gone outside to investigate a noise at about 12.50am and was stabbed once in the chest. He had been playing cards with his fiancee when they had heard some glass in the back-door smash, and he had gone out to investigate.

His fiancee found him soon after in the garden lying face down.

An ambulance was called but he died soon after. He died from a single stab wound.

As he lay dying his fiancee cradled him until the ambulance arrived.

Ten people were arrested on suspicion of his murder but were all released without charge.

The police said that wanted to trace a man that was seen in the alleyway behind Colin Hughes's house shortly before his death and released the following description:

  • White male.
  • 5ft 10 in tall.
  • Slim build.
  • Wearing a dark coloured tracksuit.

The police said that they were also trying to trace the occupants of a dark coloured hatchback car that were seen the night before, 20 September 2010 outside Colin Hughes's house at about about 8.30pm talking to him.

Colin Hughes was known as Yosser after a character from the television program from the 1980's called 'Boys from the Black Stuff'. He was described as a hard-working family man. He had worked as a chef and a local pub.
