Hussain Obad

Age: 19

Sex: male

Date: 7 Feb 2001

Place: Acorn Court, Acorn Housing Estate, Upper Warwick Street, Toxteth

Hussain Obad was shot outside his home on the Acorn housing estate in Toxteth.

He lived in a flat on the estate with his girlfriend. His girlfriend said that she was at home at 11pm on the night when she heard screeching brakes and then the sound of bangs. She said that she then ran outside and saw Hussain Obad sitting in his car and then saw him stagger out and collapse.

When medical help arrived, he was pronounced dead.

His girlfriend said that when she went out she saw two figures, one to her left and one between Hussain Obad's car and another car that it was parked by. She said that when she saw Hussain Obad collapse she ran back into her flat and called the emergency services.

The police arrested eight people in connection with his murder, but no one was charged. They said that they thought that people knew the identity of the gunmen but that no one had come forward.

His post-mortem stated that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He had previously been arrested and released on bail in relation to the shooting dead of another man in 2000. The police said that his murder was linked to criminal activity and was thought to be part of a gangland turf war.

At the time the police said that it was the fifth shooting in three weeks and noted that all the shootings involved men aged between 17 and 21 and that they were using guns to resolve their conflicts as opposed to how people once solved their issues with fists and broken glasses.
