Anthony Cavanagh was killed when he was punched after leaving the Walkabout Bar in Concert Square in Liverpool.
At the time he was on shore leave from HMS Cardiff on which he was a sailor.
He was punched on 24 September 2005 and died 11 days later on 4 October 2005. He had been in a coma for the 11 days.
He had been punched following a minor altercation inside the bar. Anthony Cavanagh had been on shore leave at the time and had bumped into a man that he didn't know at about 1.45am. A drink was then thrown at Anthony Cavanagh and he was then later attacked by a group of people associated with the person that had thrown the drink at him during which he was punched and fell down suffering from massive head injuries. It was thought that at the time he was attacked he had been trying to apologise.
He was then taken to the Royal Liverpool hospital and then later transferred to the Walton Neurological Centre where he died 11 days later. He died the day after his birthday.
In 2015 a man was held by the police on suspicion of his murder and later released on bail but no further details are known.
