Frederick William Albert Barnett was beaten and stabbed in his kitchen at his home in Hopewell Road, Hull on 29 December 1995.
Four men were convicted for his murder, but their convictions were quashed a year later. However, one of the men convicted died in prison about four months after being convicted. The other men were released about seven months later. They were freed on the basis that a jailhouse informant testified that one of the men had confessed to him that it had been him and three other men that had killed Frederick Barnett. Witnesses were also found who said that they had seen the other men outside Frederick Barnett's house at the time.
