Guydance Dacres

Age: 16

Sex: male

Date: 5 Jan 1997

Place: Chimes Nightclub, Lower Clapton Road

Guydance Dacres was shot in the head at the Chimes Nightclub with a 9mm pistol.

He had been dancing with friends at the time and collapsed in a pool of blood on the dance floor.

Two 19-year-old men were tried for his murder in 2000 but acquitted.

The gun, a 9mm Astra pistol, was later found in the toilets at the venue. Other weapons found included two knives and a knuckleduster.

The attack was said to have been random.

Another person was also shot during the attack and taken to the hospital but survived and was discharged soon after.

There were over 300 people in the club at the time. The police said that they believed that some people at the club knew who had carried out the murder but said that they had come up against a wall of silence. The police said that there would have been people undoubtedly standing next to the gunman and noted that they would have probably bragged about it later.

Guydance Dacres had been a pupil at Cardinal Pole School and had lived in Mill Row in Hoxton. He was described as a big lad. It was said that it was the first disco that Guydance Dacres had been to.

The Chimes Nightclub was later refurbished as the Clapton Hart pub.

In the following years after Guydance Dacres's murder, there were a number of other murders along the Lower Clapton Road which resulted in the road being given the nickname 'Murder Mile'.
