Trevor Lee Hamilton

Age: 37

Sex: male

Date: 27 Dec 1995

Place: Beechglade, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham

Trevor Lee Hamilton was shot in the street on the Beech Glade housing estate on the night of 27 December 1995.

He was chased into an alley off Beechglade Road following a robbery at his house at about 7pm and shot with a 9mm handgun. It was also reported that he had been shot with a .357 Magnum pistol.

Paramedics were call out soon after the shooting, but Trevor Hamilton was declared dead at the scene.

A neighbour said:

I heard a slight bang and rushed to the window. A few seconds later I saw two men running past, one looked very young. Though it was dark, I saw one of the men holding something, though I did not know it was a gun.

Following his murder, the police said that they were not ruling out links with another shooting in the same area on Christmas Eve. They also said that they feared that there might be more shootings. It was heard that a close associate of his was shot on the Hilltop golf course on Christmas Eve, however, the police said that there were no definite links betweenthe shootings.

The police said that both men were known to the police and that they thought that the motive might have been drug related. Trevor Hamilton was described as a having been a drug dealer and an armed robber.

At the time of Trevor Hamilton's murder, his friend was said to have been stilll in a critical condition.

Trevor Hamilton was last seen alive 20 minutes before his death in his Mercedes car with a 14 year old girl. It was thought that he had returned to his house in Handsworth with the girl when two masked raiders burst in with a handgun. The police said:

They demanded jewellery and money from the girl and Mr Hamilton escaped through a first floor window.

He was chased out into the street in Beech Glade were he was shot by the two masked men.

During the raid the teenage schoolgirl jumped from the upstairs window window of Trevor Hamilton's house in Hamstead Hill to flee the gunmen. The attackers then chopped up his furniture with a machete, before shooting Trevor Hamilton with a single bullet to his back in nearby Beechglade Road.

Trevor Hamilton had been a father of two.

At his inquest, the Coroner said:

I believe he was assassinated and I believe there are people who know who did it. I implore them to speak to the police.

The police also appealed for cooperation from a youth, aged about 13, that had been spotted around the time on his bicycle near the scene at the time of the shooting to come forward. The police said that they believed that the youth had valuable information. However, he had never been identified.

It was noted that his inquest was the second in two days on men that had been shot dead in North Birmingham, the other being that of 27-year-old Junior Carter. The Coroner said:

There has always been a suggestion the shootings were drug-related. No doubt some of them were, but the death of Trevor  was obviously motivated by a debt of money and gold he owed.

However, it was noted that the other two men had been shot with shotguns, whilst Trevor Hamilton had been shot with a revolver.

It wa noted that Junoir Carter had previously been deported after being questioned over a suspected Yardie kiling. Junior Carter was shot in his car.

His murder was also connected with that of Jason Wharton who was shot in the face outside an illegal blues party, however, his murder was solved

It was also connected withe the murder of Timothy Thomas who was shot dead in Loxells in June 1995.
