Anthony Boyle was killed in a street fight.
He died from blunt force trauma to the head. It was thought that he received his injury when his head hit the pavement after being punched.
He was coming home from a Conservative club where he had been drinking at about 9pm on the Friday when it was thought that he had confronted some youths over their behaviour and was punched in the face. The youths were said to include males and females.
A 15-year-old youth was arrested on suspicion of murder but there are no known charges or convictions.
It was thought that he had told a youth off for swinging on a gate, although the police had said they had been unable to confirm that.
He was found lying in a pool of blood and was taken to the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Anthony Boyle had been an electrician and labourer and had worked for the Cammell Laird shipbuilder for most of his life.
