Ricardo Cox

Age: 20

Sex: male

Date: 26 Nov 2008

Place: Mitcham Road, Croydon

Ricardo Cox was shot in Mitcham Road, Croydon, during a drive-by-shooting on 26 November 2008.

He had been walking along the street at 9.20pm with his brother to get some fried chicken. When they reached the junction of Derby Road and Mitcham Road a black Honda Civic car pulled up and the people in it asked them, 'Do you know anyone in the Byrd gang?'. When they said that they didn't someone in the car shot at them with a .22 gun hitting Ricardo Cox.

There had been three people in the car.

The gun had been a .22 calibre handgun which was said to have been distinctive.

The car was later found partially burnt out in Peall Road. The front bumper had been deliberately removed. It was also seen to stop at a petrol pump in Croydon.

It had been a hybrid model and had been stolen a month earlier in Tulse Hill. It's registration number was DG56 XTR, and it was said to have been driven by several people since it had been stolen.

The police said that they thought that the shooting was connected to a feud involving the Byrd gang which was also known as the DSN gang or Don't Say Nothing gang and that it was a case of mistaken identity.

The police described the gunman as black, aged between 18 and 20, with short hair and a deep voice. The two other people in the car were also said to have been black.

Ricardo Cox's family said that Ricardo Cox was not in a gang. He was due to go to university to study IT.
