Betty Brown

Age: 56

Sex: female

Date: 28 May 2010

Place: Longtown, Cumbria

Betty Brown vanished from Edinburgh on 28 May 2010 and was found in Longtown. Cumbria.

She was last seen in Edinburgh on a number 3 bus on Nicolson Street after which she had taken the X95 coach. It was thought that she had gone from there to either Gretna where she had a daughter or Cumbria.

When she had left she had had two bags packed which were quite heavy and it was thought unlikely that she would have walked anywhere.

Her remains were later found on 18 January 2011 in a woodland between Longtown and Gretna.

Police said that her death was suspicious.

Her decomposed remains were found close to a quarry along with a couple of Aldi bags.

It was thought that she had been sexually assaulted and that she was found semi-naked.

It was also thought that she might have got into a car when she had arrived in Cumbria and that the other person in the car had been responsible for her death.

During the eight-month police investigation the police stopped cars along the A7 and A6071 between Longtown and Gretna in order to find witnesses or anyone with any information.

Betty Brown had been a care worker and had three children.
