Javad Iqbal

Age: 37

Sex: male

Date: 9 Jul 1993

Place: Kent Walk, Stockwell, London

Javad Iqbal was stabbed in the back outside his shop. He then bled to death.

A 22-year-old man was tried for his murder but acquitted.

At the trial it was said that the man, who was the cousin of Javad Iqbal's minder was seen by a woman that had been sleeping with Javad Iqbal's minder at the time out of her window. However, the defence stated that her evidence was unreliable and that there was no case to answer. It was heard that the only evidence against the 22-year-old man was the woman's identification. It was further heard that in her evidence she had said that she had seen the 22-year-old man stab Javad Iqbal and then twist the knife, but that that was not supported by the medical evidence. It was further heard that the woman had only implicated the man a week after his murder when the police had asked her to make a statement.

However, the 22-year-old said that he had been at home in Bellmont Hill, Lewisham at the time of the murder.

Javad Iqbal had lived and worked at the shop in Kent Walk, Stockwell, altough its not clear where Kent Walk was.
