Phillip Saville was killed in Wardour Street, London, on 2 August 2001.

He had become involved in a late-night fight, possibly involving six men, whilst out at a leaving party for a work colleague. He was taken to the St Mary's Hospital and then later transferred to the private Wellington Hospital in St Johns Wood, London where he died 16 days later on 18 August 2001.

A man was charged with murder, but the charge was dropped due to insufficient evidence. It was heard that Phillip Saville was pushed and had hit his head on the ground after hitting a man with a broken bottle.
