Anthony Adams was stabbed to death outside Brixton Tube Station by two men who ran away.
A 17-year old youth was tried for his murder but acquitted.
He had had a fight earlier in the evening with Anthony Adams on 16 July 1995 in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, but the scuffle had not been serious and they youth had then gone off with his friends.
However, later, in the early hours of 17 July 1995, at around 3am, Anthony Adams was seen being chased by two men along Brixton High Street. Then, as he got to Brixton tube station, he tripped near a bus full of passengers and the two men attacked him, stabbing him six times, penetrating both his heart and lungs.
Some of the bus passengers came to his rescue and the two men ran off.
The police later found a knife sheaf near the scene which had a fingerprint that matched the 17-year old youths' and two eye-witnesses picked him out in an identity parade as the man that had stabbed Anthony Adams.
However, the 17-year old youth said that he had been with three friends in Battersea at the time, 3am, having a pizza and watching videos and the friends corroborated his story.
