Dwight Williamson

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 23 Jul 1996

Place: Huntley House, Kingswood Estate, Seeley Drive, Dulwich

Dwight Williamson was stabbed in a row. A woman was tried for his murder but acquitted after she said that it was her new boyfriend at the time that had stabbed him and that he had then afterwards fled to Jamaica.

He had been stabbed with a 12-inch carving knife in the chest.

The woman was a legal secretary and had two children.

After the police arrived she said to them, 'What have I done? I have killed Junior, oh my God, what have I done', but later said that she didn't mean that she had literally killed him, just that she had felt responsible for what had happened to him.

She said that when Dwight Williamson, a Rastafarian, called at her home and saw her new boyfriend, he became aggressive and started sneering at him. She said that he said, 'How can this baldhead inspire you? What can he do for you?'. She said that Dwight Williamson's was going into the kitchen where her new boyfriend was, but that she stopped him and got him to go into the bedroom where they could talk. She said, 'I was trying to slow him down and said let's go and talk somewhere privately. He was pacing around, I was trying to pacify him'.

She said that she managed to get him to sit down briefly in the living room where he sat on the edge of a coffee table by the sofa where one of her children was sleeping. She said that he was saying all sorts of things, noting that he was prepared to accept that she had ended their relationship and had met someone else, but told her that he thought it would have been for a really wise Rasta man. She said, 'He was just so angry. He got up from the table fuming and headed for the kitchen again and I ran to stop him'. She said that she got in the middle of Dwight Williamson and her new boyfriend and said that Dwight Williamson said, 'What can this young boy do for you?'.

The woman said that at that point her new boyfriend got up and said, 'How can you treat this woman like this? Listen how you are going on talking to her and treating her so badly'. She said that Dwight Williamson then 'started to rail up again, flare up'.

However, she said that she managed to get him to go into the bedroom with her but said that instead of calming down he began lashing out at her. She said, 'He came towards me, he kept pulling and striking me'. She said that the violence escalated and said, 'It was all so frenzied. I was scared. I was screaming, and he was trying to strangle me'.

She said that it was then that her new boyfriend came in to the bedroom and rescued her and that when the two men came to blows, her new boyfriend stabbed Dwight Williamson.

The woman said that after her new boyfriend stabbed Dwight Williamson, he left the United Kingdom and went to Jamaica where he was from.

Photographic evidence was also shown of her breasts which showed bruises and of her body which had finger and bite marks on it, which she said Dwight Williamson had caused.

After the judge heard her evidence he stopped the trial and directed the jury to acquit her of murder.
