Emma Langley

Age: 19

Sex: female

Date: 3 Feb 1998

Place: Beaulah Road, Thornton Heath

Emma Langley died after being pushed into a scalding hot bath at a care home.

Two housing officers at the care home where Emma Langley was staying were originally charged with her manslaughter at the Old Bailey where it was said that they had ignored complaints that the water at the home was too hot. It was thought that Emma Langley had run a bath and that the water was too hot and that Emma Langley, who was epileptic, had had a fit and fallen in.

However, at the trial new evidence was presented that suggested that she had been pushed into the water by someone else and the two housing officers were discharged.

The water was described as kettle hot.

She was said to have plunged head first into the water and that the real cause of her death was then covered up.

The care home, in Beaulah Road, Thornton Heath, had been managed by St Katherine's Housing Association.
