Stephen Andrews

Age: 46

Sex: male

Date: 9 Dec 2012

Place: Dukes Head Pub, Lower Richmond Road, Putney, South London

Stephen Andrews was assaulted outside the Duke's Head pub in Thames Place off of Lower Richmond Road in Putney on Sunday 9 December 2012 at about 12.30am and taken to St George's Hospital where he later died at 6pm the same day.

He had been involved in a fight after going out to celebrate his girlfriend's birthday. It was not thought that he had been a regular at the Duke's Head pub.

His post-mortem concluded that his cause of death was severe head injury.

The pub was described as busy but because it was cold at the time, only smokers had been outside. It was thought that the assault had happened in Thames Place which was just off of Lower Richmond Road to the side of the pub.

A 28-year-old man was later arrested on 11 December 2012 in Exeter on suspicion of murder but later released without charge. He had handed himself in voluntarily.

Stephen Andrews had lived in Old Oak Lane, Harlesden but was from New Zealand and had been the lead singer in the punk band Vas Deferens from the 1990s which had been a significant part of the music scene in Wellington, New Zealand at the time. Vas Deferens had been formed in 1988.

Stephen Andrews had been living in the United Kingdom for the previous fifteen years and at the time had been working as a postman.
