Wlodzimierz Alesandor Komisarek was killed in his home by a burglar. A man was tried but found not guilty.
The man tried was Wlodzimierz Komisarek's lodger, but he said that he was nowhere near the scene of the crime at the time.
Wlodzimierz Komisarek had been battered and strangled in his bed. It was thought that he had woken up to find someone in his room burgling his home.
The burglar was thought to have taken items from Wlodzimierz Komisarek's home and then left in his car.
Another Polish man had said that the lodger tried had admitted killing Wlodzimierz Komisarek to him but refused to give evidence, saying that he wanted to put it all behind him. However, at the lodger's trial, the defence said that the other Polish man's statement was a tissue of lies.
