Ismail Essa was stabbed in a street fight outside the Lavinia cafe in Gorst Road, Acton in the early morning, about 4.40am, on 3 November 2013.
Two other men were also injured in the fight. When the police and an ambulance arrived, he was found to be already dead.
A 22-year old man was later arrested on 9 November 2013 and tried at the Old Bailey on 10 June 2014 but acquitted, although he was convicted of wounding with intent and violent disorder after having slashed another man's face. Two other men were also arrested and tried for lesser offences but acquitted.
It was thought that an argument had started in the cafe after a woman accused one of Ismail Essa's group of friends of touching her arm. It was said that the row then went outside where it turned into a fight.
The men were Somalian and the cafe was a Shisha cafe. The Lavinia cafe was also known as the Shisha Place.
