Sex: male

Date: 29 Oct 2000

Place: North Road, Edmonton, North London

Manokumar Kumar died after being attacked with an axe in his home between 29 October and 1 November 2000.

His arm was almost severed, and he bled to death.

Two men were tried for his murder at the Old Bailey but the trial was halted and charges against one of the men dropped after it was found that there was insufficient evidence.

Manokumar Kumar was described as a gangster  and had been part of a gang of Tamil's involved in credit card fraud. He and one of the men charged with his murder had been making a lot of money by using stolen credit cards at petrol stations around London to buy things. The petrol stations were all run by fellow Sri Lankans.

It was said that the man had attacked Manokumar Kumar after they had had a falling out over the fraud. However, it was also noted that Manokumar Kumar had a lot of enemies and it was heard that there were a lot of people that wanted to have him run down.

It was said that his attackers had gone to his house in North Road, Edmonton and climbed in through a window and attacked him with the axe, and it was said that one of the men on trial had been seen leaving his house near the time. It was said that he then went to another man’s house and got rid of his blood stained clothing.

However, the man denied making the journey or getting rid of the blood stained clothing.

His defence said:

This was, we say, violent Tamil politics and lies, lies and more lies.
