Roy Streeter

Age: 32

Sex: male

Date: 22 Nov 2002

Place: Endlesham Road, Balham, South West London

Roy Streeter was found hanged in his bedsit with his hands tied behind his back.

He was found by his sister in the bathroom after she fetched another key when he didn't answer the door.

The coroner said it was either suicide or murder.

The coroner criticised the police for being too busy to investigate his death. It was heard that the police surgeon that had inspected Roy Streeter's body had decided that he had tied his hands up himself. The Coroner said, 'A man is found hanged with his hands tied behind his back, you call CID, and they say: 'We are a bit busy.', Is that the situation?', and the policeman he was questioning said that it was. The policeman added that CID were informed but that they were already attending another serious incident.

The police said that they thought that Roy Streeter had stood on a crate, slipped his head into the noose and then kicked the crate away. When the Coroner asked the policeman how he thought Roy Streeter had tied his hands behind his back, the policeman said, 'I've no idea sir'.

Roy Streeter’s sister told the inquest that Roy Streeter had been sexually abused as a child and that he heard voices in his head.
