Emiel Blankert died after being beaten up in Ladybrook.
His girlfriend was tried twice for his murder at Nottingham Crown Court but the jury returned a hung verdict on both occasions.
After being attacked on 5 December 2013 he admitted himself to the King's Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire but died four days later. He was said to have suffered a sustained assault that had resulted in severe stomach injuries.
He was seen in CCTV footage going into the Ladybrook Pub in Ladybrook Lane, Mansfield shortly after he had been assaulted, at which point it was thought that he would have had several injuries which later caused his death.
Police said that they were investigating his movements earlier on on that Monday around the Ladybrook area.
Two women and a man were arrested shortly after he died.
He was originally from the Netherlands but had lived in Nottinghamshire for 20 years.
