Terry Davies

Age: 24

Sex: male

Date: 12 Sep 2013

Place: 48/49 South Terrace, Littlehampton

Terry Davies died in a fire at his flat at 48/49 South Terrace, Littlehampton.

Someone poured white spirit near the entrance to the block of flats he lived in and set it on fire in the early hours of 12 September 2013.

He died from the effects of breathing in smoke.

Four other people in the building also needed hospital treatment and it wasn't thought that Terry Davies had been deliberately targeted.

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder in February 2014 and released on bail, but his bail was cancelled in August 2014.

Another man had been arrested the day before the fire on suspicion of setting fire to a car in Littlehampton. The police initially linked the two arsons and questioned the man over the fire that killed Terry Davies, but he too was later released.

It was initially thought that the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault, but it was later revealed that white spirits had been used.

Terry Davies had had learning difficulties.

He had been in the flat, at the rear of the building, which was by the seafront in Littlehampton for 16-months and it was the first time that he had properly lived away from home, being determined to live independently.

He had worked at Morrisons Supermarket in Littlehampton.
