Barbara Harper

Age: 65

Sex: female

Date: 25 Sep 2000

Place: Brixton Road, London

Barbara Harper was run over by a stolen Honda VFR400 motorcycle in June 2000 and later died from her injuries three months later on 25 September 2000.

The motorcycle owner was tried for causing death by dangerous driving but acquitted after he said that it wasn't him and that his bike had been stolen.

Barbara Harper was hit by the motorcycle and sent flying 30 yards down the road when the motorcycle went through a red light on the Brixton Road as she was crossing. The motorcycle was said to have been travelling between 40mph and 75mph as it went through the red light.

The rider of the motorcycle left the motorcycle at the scene and was seen to flee over some barriers. The rider had still had his crash helmet on when he ran off.

Barbara Harper was from Wrexham and had been in London visiting her son who was a builder.

Barbara Harper had been waiting at the traffic lights and when she saw that the traffic had stopped she started crossing the road, but was then hit.

She suffered from multiple injuries.

The owner of the Honda VFR400 motorcycle later reported the motorcycle stolen. He said that he had been to see a friend on his motorcycle and had left the keys in the ignition by mistake. He said that he heard his bike start up and when he looked over a balcony he saw a black person with it. He said that he then ran down the stairs and told him to get off but that when he got there the person and his motorcycle had already left the car park.

He said that he had bought the motorcycle a month before for £250 and still owed £50 for it.
