Jill Jenkin was run over by a man in a Nissan Bluebird car on 8 February 2002. She was taken to hospital where she went into a coma and died on 28 February 2002.
She died from broncho-pneumonia brought on by her serious head injuries.
She had been crossing the road at the time.
After hitting her the car had hit another car and then raced away.
A man that had been crossing the road just in front of her said that he heard a thud and that when he turned and he saw Jill Jenkin rolling off the bonnet of the car. He said that he then saw the Nissan Bluebird car do a U-turn and then drive off. He said that he thought that the driver was a white man in his late 30s and said that he had looked stunned. However, another man that saw the Nissan Bluebird car said that he thought that the driver was black. He said that he saw it hit a Nissan Micra car as it swerved to avoid a bus.
The driver of the Nissan Micra car said that he saw the crash and made a note of the Nissan Bluebird car number plate.
The car was later traced to a second-hand car dealer in Leas Green, Chislehurst who said that it was an old banger and only worth £50 and that when it was stolen on 29 January 2002 from Sidcup Place he had not been too concerned. He had bought it in a part exchange. He said that he didn't know who had been driving it and when asked it might have been one of his sons he said that they would have had the choice of plenty of other cars to have driven if required.
