Leon Forbes

Age: 21

Sex: male

Date: 7 Dec 2003

Place: Daley Thompson Way, Queenstown Road, Clapham

Leon Forbes was shot outside his home in Clapham on Daley Thompson Way on 7 December 2003.

He had just left his house at 12.15am after arranging to meet a friend to play him his new CD and had gone down to his mother's car and just got in.

He was shot in the back of the neck. The bullet had severed his spine. The gunman had been standing directly behind the car when he had fired. After being shot his foot jammed down on the accelerator and the car lurched forward into some bins.

The friend that he was in the car with was also shot in the shoulder.

His mother heard the gun shot and then went out to provide him assistance. When she came out the wheels of the car were still spinning and there was a lot of smoke. She then went with him to St Thomas's Hospital near London Bridge where she sat for nine ours holding his hand until his heart stopped beating and he died.

The investigation into his murder met a wall of silence.

He was a music producer and it was thought that he was shot by local youth's that had been jealous of his achievements. However, there was no specific known motive.

He had produced the band Ghostt that had reached the finals of the Mobo Unsung awards in the summer of 2003 after which he had started his own record label. He was said to have been very confident and it was thought that someone might have been jealous of that. His success had taken him to Germany to produce some tracks and he had done work for some known musicians and celebrities.

It was heard that he had been threatened with a gun earlier on.

In January 2004 the police found an abandoned car following another shooting and were able to make a forensic link to Leon Forbes shooting.
