George Tweedie

Age: 25

Sex: male

Date: 1 May 2002

Place: Bedworth, Warwickshire

George Tweedie was found dead in the boot of a car that had been set alight in the Peak District in Derbyshire.

It was thought that he had been killed at his home in Bedworth and then taken in the car to the Peak District where it was dumped and set on fire.

Several people were convicted of concealing his death but no one was convicted of his murder. Two of the people convicted for concealing his death had blamed each other for his murder. They were sentenced to seven and five years for perverting the course of justice. They had also arranged for their son to travel to Amsterdam and Ibiza and send letters to George Tweedie's family supposedly from him.

George Tweedie was killed by a heavy blow to the face.

His body was found in the car after it had been recovered from the scene two days later and taken to a scrapyard for crushing.

The police said that everyone they had interviewed other than George Tweedie's relatives had lied.

One of the people that had been convicted of perverting the course of justice, a woman, had been George Tweedie's lover. The other person had been the woman’s estranged husband, and the third person their son.

The investigation into his murder was reopened in October 2020 after the police found a new line of enquiry.
