Ron Fuller was shot on his doorstep.
It was thought that he had been shot by a hitman. Three shots were heard. It was thought that his killer had waited for him outside his home.
He was found lying outside his bungalow by his girlfriend and taken to hospital in an ambulance but later died. He had been shot twice in the head and twice in the body at point-blank range.
After the shooting a man was seen leaving on a motorcycle or scooter with learner plates on it. The bike was said to have had some chrome on it. The man riding the bike was said to have been white with a medium build and about 5ft 7in tall and with mousy hair. He was also said to have been wearing a long jacket with fluorescent material on it. The registration number of the bike was said to end with the letters VMX.
It was thought that Ron Fuller and his girlfriend and a 10-year old boy had moved there about two months earlier.
Ron Fuller was a builder.
He had earlier been suspected of stabbing Darren Pearman to death at the Epping Forest Country Club in October 1999 and it was thought by the police that it was a possibility that the stabbing of Darren Pearman and his shooting could have been connected. Ron Fuller was shot two months after he was released on bail over Darren Pearman's murder.
