Balkaran Singh was killed in a street fight.
Balkaran Singh had been with four friends and they decided to go to a burger shop in Western Road, Southall. Whilst there they were confronted by a larger group of Asians and they were heard to be insulting each other and saying things like 'F*** you mother' and 'F*** your sister'.
Balkaran Singh and his friends were chased off by the larger group. However, Balkaran Singh was seen crouching down on the street and reaching for his inside pocket when the gang caught up with him and attacked him. They had been armed with studded belts, iron bars, bottles and knives and he was beaten about the head and stabbed six times.
When Balkaran Singh was taken to hospital they found an imitation gun amongst his belongings. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Several people were questioned about his murder but the police were unable to bring any charges against anyone.
Four people were convicted for threatening behaviour.
