Karl Hamilton

Age: 17

Sex: male

Date: 10 Jan 2004

Place: Hadrian Estate, Bethnal Green, East London

Karl Hamilton was stabbed to death in a street fight.

He was stabbed nine times and died on the way to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. He had been stabbed in the head, torso and left thigh. His post mortem stated the cause of death to be stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Two youths were tried in 2004 but acquitted. The prosecution said that they could not prove who in the gang had done the stabbing.

In 2007 or 2012 a third youth was also charged with his murder but was acquitted at the Old Bailey.

Thirteen youths had been arrested in connection with the investigation.

It was said that the fight had been over a £15 drug debt that a friend of his owed for cannabis and that Karl Hamilton and his friends had backed away from the gang of Asian youths when they pulled out knives. Karl Hamilton was said to have then tripped because his shoe didn't have a shoelace and was then surrounded and kicked and stabbed on the ground. The gang had been armed with sticks, machetes and knives whilst Karl Hamilton had taken a hockey stick.

Karl Hamilton had been with six of his friends at the time when they had confronted the other gang of youths. The other gang had had about 15 youths in it.

Karl Hamilton worked at the Royal London Hospital as a catering assistant and lived with his grandmother in Bethnal Green.
