Quang Vin Vu

Quang Vin Vu was beaten and stabbed to death.

A man was tried for his murder but acquitted.

He had been beaten to death with a hammer and stabbed. Witnesses had heard him screaming as he was attacked saying they heard 'blood curdling screams'.

At the man's trial it was heard that Quang Vu and the man had been on their way to buy Billingsgate Fish Market in the morning of 21 January 2004 to buy fish for the Vietnamese New Year but their Honda Civic car had broken down near the Tesco store in Surrey Quays. The man said that after the car had broken down they had tried to restart it but when they couldn't they had pushed it onto a grass verge. The man had said that he had agreed with Quang Vu that he should continue on to the market to get the seafood and that he would walk home to tidy up his flat and that when he had left him he was alive and well. The man said that Quang Vu had told him that he had a friend that lived near the market and that his friend would give him a lift there and that he had left him at a phone box.

The man said that he planned on getting a friend that was a cab driver to tow his car back for him the next day.

Quang Vu was beaten and stabbed in White Post Street near the junction with New Cross Road in New Cross, (or in Surrey Quays).

He was taken to Kings College Hospital in Denmark Hill but pronounced dead at 6.31am on 21 January 2004.

It was heard that the man tried had attacked Quang Vu after he had become jealous about the close friendship that he had developed with his wife. The man had met his wife in a refugee camp in Hong Kong and then later come to the UK in 1993 with her and had later met Quang Vu at a Vietnamese karaoke club in 2003.

After Quang Vu was attacked he had managed to call the man's wife.
