Oguzhin Ozdemir

Age: 26

Sex: male

Date: 14 Jul 2001

Place: River Lea, South Tottenham

Oguzhin Ozdemir was shot.

Three people were tried for his kidnap and murder and were convicted of kidnapping him but it could not be proven who had shot him and so they were all acquitted of the murder charge.

Oguzhin Ozdemir, who was Turkish, was said to be a small-time drug dealer selling heroin and it was thought that he had been murdered after he had lost some heroin that he had received from members of the Tottenham Mandem gang and had been unable to pay for it.

He was later found by anglers on a river bank in north London having been shot four times, twice in the head and twice in the back.

After he was murdered a man set fire to Oguzhin Ozdemir's car at a Muslim cemetery in Walthamstow, for which he was also convicted. Oguzhin Ozdemir's BMW car was seen on CCTV being driven to the cemetery.

It was said that Oguzhin Ozdemir had begged his friends to help get the money and that he had tried to escape his kidnappers. He had gone to meet the men that he owed the money to, said to be members of the Tottenham Mandem gang, in Tottenham on 14 July 2001 and whilst with them he had made a number of calls to friends to get the money during which one of the men had grabbed the phone and said that they were going to kill Oguzhin Ozdemir unless they got the goods or the money. However, one of Oguzhin Ozdemir's friends threatened to call the police and the men hung up.

Later on that night some anglers that were on an all-night carp fishing contest at a reservoir in Tottenham heard several gunshots.

Oguzhin Ozdemir had lived in Enfield.
