Andrew Bedford

Age: 27

Sex: male

Date: 28 Sep 1990

Place: Factory Bank, Ramsey, Cambridgeshire

Andrew Bedford was last seen by Factory Bank, off Great Whyte in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire on 28 September 1990 sitting in a light blue Ford Cortina estate car eating what was thought to have been some fish and chips.

He is believed to have been shot later that evening in a garage called Mongrel Cars where he worked, with a shotgun. The main suspect is also dead. Mongrel Cars no longer exists.

He was reported missing by his girlfriend on the following day, Saturday, 29 September 1990 after he didn't come home as planned.

He had lived in Tweed Street in Huntingdon at the time.

Andrew Bedford was about 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, had mousey blond and curly shoulder-length hair and had a number of tattoos.

When he was last seen he was wearing overalls, a khaki jumper, a pair of jeans and a pair of trainers.

It was suggested that Andrew Bedford had been going to give evidence in court about a stolen lorry although it was thought to have been just a rumour and that he was not doing anything like that at all.

The police searched a pond in Ramsey in 1992 after they received a tip-off that Andrew Bedford had been shot.

In 2015 bones were found on land off Stocking Fen Road in Ramsey and a man arrested but no charges were made. The search took the police 13 days to complete. It was reported that forensic tests were being made by an expert in forensic anthropology, but the results are not known although it was initially said that the bones were consistent with having been human.

Eight people were also later arrested in January 2016 on suspicion of the following charges as detailed below:

  • A 52-year-old male from the Raunds area in Northamptonshire: suspicion of assisting an offender and conspiracy to prevent lawful burial.
  • A 47-year-old male from Sheerness, Kent: suspicion of assisting an offender and conspiracy to prevent lawful burial.
