Mark McCall was shot dead in Pudsey, West Yorkshire.

A gunman had waited for him in a car to pass through an alleyway between Westdale Road and Westdale Drive at about 6.45pm and then shot him three times.

He had been walking along with his girlfriend at the time when a man in a red Volkswagen Golf car shot him.

There were said to have been two men in the car which had been stolen two nights before and which was later found abandoned and set on fire.

He was described as a leading underworld figure and said to have fallen out with other gang members over drugs and money.

After his murder the West Yorkshire Police informed the Assets Recovery Agency that their initial investigations indicated that Mark McCall had a lack of legitimate income to fund his lifestyle and after they carried out an investigation they announced in 2007 that they had been able to recover than £140,000, which included:

  • £62,270 from the proceeds of the sale of a property in Rodley, Leeds
  • £74,748 from the benefit paid by a life insurance policy in Mark McCall's name
  • £6,014 from a bank account

He was described as a violent, well-known local criminal that had been involved in drug dealing and had at one time been charged with conspiring to murder a gang member in Chapeltown in Leeds who had almost been killed twice, but he was acquitted. Also, in 1995 he had been convicted for the following:

  • 42 months' imprisonment for grievous bodily harm with intent
  • 2 years for wounding
  • 3 years for making a false statement in order to obtain a false passport

Mark McCall had three children.
