Age: 43

Sex: male

Date: 2 Jul 2005

Place: St Marys Burial Ground, Churchfield Road, South Acton

Zbigniew Forys died after a fight in St Mary's burial ground on Churchfield Road, South Acton, between 5pm and 9pm on 30 June 2005.

He had been a tramp.

Two men were arrested for his murder and one man was tried but acquitted after it was heard that there was no direct evidence linking his assault to the cause of death.

Zbigniew Forys was found in St Mary's burial ground on 1 July 2005 following a drunken row that had involved about ten other men. He was taken to Charing Cross Hospital where he died the next day.

Zbigniew Forys was said to have died from a catalogue of minor injuries. His cause of death was given as severe head injuries.

The men had once lived together in South Acton but in early 2005 Zbigniew Forys had left. However, they would often meet in St Mary's burial ground on Churchfield Road where they would all drink.

On 30 June 2005 witnesses saw several tramps fighting in the graveyard. Later at about 8pm the man that was tried for his murder was seen kneeling over a man who was on the ground, hitting him repeatedly. About 15 minutes later a group of men were heard to shout, 'You touch my man again, I will f***ing kill you'. Another argument was heard about an hour later.

At 12.30am Zbigniew Forys was seen snoozing on a bench, at 6.15am he was found to be dead.

He had various minor injuries to his head, neck, chest, stomach, arms and legs and was five times the legal alcohol limit for driving.

The man that was tried for his murder was arrested on 3 July. At first he denied knowing Zbigniew Forys but then later admitted causing some of the injuries. His defence had said that he admitted slapping Zbigniew Forys as he was lying on the floor during a verbal exchange.

Zbigniew Forys was also known as Ziggy.
