Woman

Age: unknown

Sex: female

Date: 7 Jul 1955

Place: Oxford Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham

A woman’s skull was found in a skip on 25 May 2006. It was thought that she was last alive in the 1950s.

It was found in a plastic bag on the evening of 25 May 2006.

Following the discovery of the remains it was reported that the police spent a year trying to identify her and an image of how she might have looked was built up by a specialist in forensic anthropology at the University of Dundee. It was noted that the efforts could not guess at the colour of her eyes, skin or hair, but noted that her teeth would have appeared 'goofy'.

However, the police said that they were not treating her death as suspicious, noting that there was no evidence to suggest foul play or that it should be a murder enquiry. They said, 'The skull has been thoroughly examined and there is nothing to suggest any trauma'.

The police said that they had referenced the National Missing Persons Bureau but were unable to determine anything that could help identify her.

It was noted in 2007 that the police had discounted the possibility that the skull could have been that of Nicola Payne who went missing in December 1991 after leaving home and taking a short cut across some playing fields.

It was also suggested that the skull could have been the result of a ritualistic killing.

The approximate date of the woman’s death was arrived at by experts at Oxford University who carried out carbon dating on the skull, concluding that she had been alive in the 1950s.
