Stephen Colby

Age: 47

Sex: male

Date: 11 Apr 2003

Place: Audley Street, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

Stephen Colby was murdered in his home at Audley Street, Great Yarmouth, having been battered to death.

He found lying face-down on the floor of his living room in a pool of blood in the early hours of 11 April 2003.

He died from head injuries after having been struck up to 100 times with a blunt instrument.

He was thought to have been killed between 10pm on 10 April 2003 and 3am on Friday 11 April 2003.

He was found by his two sons, one of whom was tried for murder in 2004 but acquitted. Stephen Colby's blood was found on the wristwatch of the son that was tried, but he said that it must have got there when he felt his pulse. The son had been 24-years-old at the time.

Stephen Colby had lived alone and had been a retired builder.

It was thought that he might have been killed by burglars.

It was noted that an ornamental fire fret had been missing from his house after he was found along with his wallet and mobile phone. The murder weapon was never found.

It was also said that he had recently inherited nearly £100,000 from an aunt which could have been a motive for either burgling his home or murdering him. He was said to have promised his two sons £10,000 each.
