Saifuddin Figa Hussein

Age: 36

Sex: male

Date: 10 Apr 1989

Place: Blonk Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Saifuddin Figa Hussein was attacked in a car park in Blonk Street, Sheffield on 10 April 1989.

He died from blunt force trauma and it was said that his injuries were consistent with him having been kicked to death.

He had been a tramp and had been known as Saffy and had been sleeping in a stairwell in the car park. He had just got there, having bought a takeaway curry with him and it was thought that he had been attacked just after he settled down to eat it. It was thought that it had been violently knocked from his hands and the police found the residue of it over the stairwell walls.

It was thought that he would have been virtually powerless to defend himself at the time.

Saifuddin Hussein was described as a friendly and harmless character and there was no known motive. It was thought that he had probably been attacked for the sake of committing violence.

It was noted that at the time that the Blonk Street car park had been in a bleak part of Sheffield, before the more recent surrounding hotels were built, and that the murder took place before CCTV was more widely utilised and forensic science less well developed than today.

Whilst Saifuddin Hussein was a familiar figure to many in the city, few people knew much about him.
